Nursing Pigslets
Pigs from birth until weaning that are currently nursing. May be referred to as weanling pigs, baby pigs, or suckling piglets in the industry.
Starter or Nursery Swine
Swine intended for slaughter approximately 40-70 lb (18-32 kg).
Growing Swine
Swine intended for slaughter approximately 40-70 lb (18-32 kg) to 120-150 lb (55-68 kg).
Finishing Swine
Swine intended for slaughter approximately 120 to 150 lb (55-68 kg) to market weight.
Boars
Intact male swine intended for breeding or slaughter (including chemically castrated males and those removed from breeding service, aka culled boars).
Barrows
Surgically castrated male swine intended for slaughter.
Gilts
Female swine that have not farrowed a little and are intended for slaughter or breeding (replacement, or gestating replacement).
Sows
Female pigs that have farrowed one or more litters. Includes gestating, lactating, Weaned, and sows intended slaughter (removed from breeding service, aka culled).
