December 17, 2015 - The approval of all applications for use of nitarsone in animal feed is withdrawn. Following this action, there are no FDA-approved, arsenic-based drugs for use in food producing animals.

October 10, 2015 - California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 27, making California the first state in the nation to impose additional restrictions on the use of antibiotics in healthy farm animals and prohibit their use to promote the growth of livestock.

April 24, 2013 - The FDA has announced a temporary suspension of marketing, sales and shipment of Enroflox™ 100 (ANADA 200-495) for use in cattle following a U.S. District Court order. March 6, 2013 - The FDA announced five public meetings to discuss the challenges faced by veterinarians and livestock producers as the FDA increases oversight of certain medically important antimicrobials.

January 31, 2013 - The National Institute for Animal Agriculture released a white paper that addresses the complex subject of antimicrobial use and resistance and breaks it down into issues that need to be addressed, factors that need to be considered and actions that need to be taken in order to improve human, environmental and animal health.


September 27, 2012 - The FDA issued a Memorandum of Information pertaining to the Cephalosporin Order of Prohibition that took effect on 6 April 2012. The memorandum provides further clarification of restrictions and exceptions associated with the previous order.
