In early 2000, the FARAD directors took on a new vision: A network of collaborating global FARAD partners in different countries that would provide US FARAD with drug approval data in a format compatible with the US drug database. These partners would also enter into the database pharmacokinetic data of substances unique to their nation’s environment and production practices, as well as serve as a source of local regulatory expertise relative to import and export food safety. This idea immediately drew interests from many countries and the concept of a Global FARAD (gFARAD) was born. Since this early time, FARAD has collaborated with the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI) to develop a platform that would facilitate such a program. However, funding for this effort has been elusive. FARAD has now taken it upon itself to collect foreign drug approval data with the ultimate goal of making these data widely available so that import and export of safe residue-free foods would be facilitated.
